Trupp Wins Top MAME ’87 Honors

Beverly Trupp, president of Color Design Art, Pacific Palisades, is the 1987 winner of the Max Tipton Award, presented at the 14th annual Major Achievement in Merchandising Excellence (MAME) Awards.

More than 700 entries were received this year by the sponsoring Sales & Marketing Council of Southern California, under auspices of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California.

Hicks & Associates won the MAME award for Best Overall Public Relations Campaign for Carmel Mountain Ranch, by Presley of San Diego and Home Capital Development Group. Because of inaccurate information supplied to The Times, the co-developer was named as Presley of Southern California, a separate firm.

Last year’s Tipton Award winner, Bob Hubbert, presented the award to Trupp, president of one of the nation’s most successful model home interior design firms.

Other Major Awards

Other major awards, presented to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions and accomplishments, went to:

Tim Hamilton, Barratt Irvine, Marketing Director of the Year; Steven R. Kaller, K & M Sales & Marketing, Sales Manager of the Year; Judy Foster, Orange County sales manager for Homebuyers Guilde and current first vice president of SMC, President’s Achievement Award.

Others were Jack Beauchamp of Presley of Southern California, Salesperson of the Year, average sales price under $135,000; Karin Keene of K & M Sales & Marketing, Salesperson of the Year, average sales price between $136,000 and $200,000; Mike Rhodes of the Mitchell Co., Salesperson of the Year, average sales price over $200,000, and Josephine Jones and Shep Wilkinson, Taylor Woodrow Homes, Sales Team of the year, any price project.

Also, Bryan Hardwick Associates for Coto de Caza by Arvida/Chevron Land Corp., Best Overall Public Relations Campaign, any price project, and Roni Hicks & Associates for Carmel Mountain Ranch by Presley of Southern California and Home Capital Development Group, Best Overall Public Relations Campaign, master-planned community.

The Grand Award winners, presented to the project which achieves the highest point total in its particular category, were:

Average Sales Price under $125,000, Fiesta, Mission Viejo Co., Oceanside, advertising by Green, Martin & Nevins; sales office design by Cahill-Cejka and the Zebra Design Team; models by Interior Design Development Inc.; landscape design by Land/Plan/Design Group; architectural design by Architect’s Group.

Average Sales Price between $125,000 and $175,000, Halcyon Del Mar by RecreActions of California; advertising and sales office design by Grayson-Graphic Communications; models by Saddleback Interiors; landscape design by Wimmer Yamada Associates; architect, Naegle Associates.

Average Sales Price between $176,000 and $225,000, Esprit at Penasquitos Ridge, Rancho Penasquitos, by the Buie Corp.; advertising agency, Ted Hansen Design; sales office by Motivational Systems Inc.; models by Yeiser Garland & Associates; landscape architect, Gillespie DeLorenzo & Associates; architect Robert Bowlus & Associates.

Nearly 1,200 attended the Jan. 30 event at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. David Sheehan, KNBC-TV’s entertainment reporter, was the host. Marilyn (Marty) Reinfried of the Lusk Co. was this year’s MAME Awards chairwoman.
