A 30-year-old Santa Ana man remained in custody Sunday charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after a teen-age girl was found shot in the arm at a campsite in the Cleveland National Forest, authorities said.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said deputies were called to the Chorizo Fire Station at 4:30 a.m. Saturday and found Ashlee Davis, 14, of San Clemente, with a gunshot in her right arm.

A friend of the girl said the shooting occurred in the Wildomar off-road campground where the girl and others had been camping, officials said.

The girl was treated and released from Mission Community Hospital, authorities said. Sheriff’s deputies arrested John Ramiraz Saturday after recovering a .22-caliber rifle, spent casings and other evidence linking him to the shooting at the campground, sheriff’s deputies said.

Ramiraz was booked into the Riverside County Jail. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
