PHILADELPHIA —
The Philadelphia 76ers fired Matt Guokas as head coach and replaced him with assistant Jim Lynam, former coach of the San Diego and Los Angeles Clippers, the NBA club announced today.
Lynam, who inherits a struggling team with a 20-23 record, will take over Tuesday night when the team plays the Atlanta Hawks. Guokas had been the Sixers’ coach since June 14, 1985. The Sixers have lost seven of their last nine games overall and their last 10 in succession on the road.
