WPP Group, the British marketing firm that last year purchased the parent company to the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency, said it has acquired Anspach Grossman Portugal Inc., New York, a corporate identity consulting firm, for up to $36 million in cash and stock. Among AGP’s major clients are American Express, Citicorp and Quaker Oats. All five of AGP’s principals, Russell Anspach, Eugene Grossman, Joel Portugal, Kenneth Love and William Schneider, will remain with AGP.
