Local News in Brief : West Ventura County Trash Fees to Increase
Trash fees for west Ventura County residents will jump from about $10 to $12 per month as the result of a rate hike approved last week by the Ventura Regional Sanitation District.
The district voted unanimously to raise fees 86% at west county dumps, which will hike tipping fees--the prices dumps charge waste haulers--from $14 to $22 per ton.
District officials say the higher fees are necessary to pay for maintenance required under new environmental laws and to reopen the long-closed Bailard Landfill near the Santa Clara River.
