Minimalist sculptor Carl Andre was acquitted in New York Supreme Court Thursday of murder charges stemming from the 1985 death of his artist wife, who plunged from the couple’s 34th story bedroom window. Judge Alvin Schlesinger, who presided over the nonjury trial, said the state had not proved its case that Andre had thrown Ana Mendieta, 36, from their Greenwich Village apartment after a struggle. “I have concluded that the evidence does not satisfy me beyond a reasonable doubt,” Schlesinger told the court.
