Inouye

A faint glow of leadership is emerging again in the Senate offices of Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii). His tardy but very welcome announcement that he would seek an $8-million spending recision could be the first of many badly needed public confessions of borrowing and overspending by our national leaders (Part I, Feb. 2). Those candidates who want to be our national leaders should also swear off the borrow and overspend complex.

Just imagine if Congress follows the example by submitting “spending recisions”--really line-item vetoes--Americans could, for the first time in 30 years, see politicians finally begin to act responsibly on national finances. Let us pray!
