A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly throwing a puppy from a second-story balcony to its death, police said Thursday.

Anthony Moore, 22, was arrested and is being held in San Diego County Jail downtown on suspicion of felony animal abuse. His bail was set at $5,000.

Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department, said that Moore apparently had been arguing with a woman at his residence in the 4400 block of 40th Street about 7 p.m. when he became angry, picked up the Labrador retriever puppy, and threw it over the balcony.
