Eugene Aulicino; Discoverer of Historic Site
Eugene Aulicino, 60, who in 1982 was credited with discovering an old Union Army building in Wilmington, one of only two Civil War structures left in the Harbor area. Aulicino found the 20-by-20-foot brick and stone structure used to store black powder under the site of a rickety wooden building that was being torn down and notified the Los Angeles Police Department. Steps were put in motion to save the structure on land sold to the Union Army for $1 by Southern California developer Phineas Banning.
