PCAA Roundup : Utah State Overpowers UCSB, 85-62

Reid Newey scored 19 points to lead Utah State to a surprisingly easy 85-62 victory over UC Santa Barbara Thursday night in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. basketball game at Logan, Utah.

The Aggies (15-6 overall, 10-2 in the PCAA) have won five straight games. Santa Barbara (16-5, 8-4) was coming off its second straight upset of Nevada Las Vegas.

Utah State jumped to a 19-8 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half. But the Gauchos scored 13 straight points for their only lead in the game at 21-19 with 7:36 left.

The Aggies came back with a 10-2 run to regain the lead for good at 29-23 with 4:19 left in the half.

Kevin Nixon had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Utah State, and Dan Conway added 13 points.

Mike Doyle scored 20 points for the Gauchos.

New Mexico State 84, Pacific 75--Virgil Harris scored 25 points, and the Aggies beat the Tigers in overtime at Stockton.

New Mexico State (14-11, 6-6) increased Pacific’s losing streak to 14 games.

Pacific (5-16, 0-11) led, 39-32, at halftime but lost the lead with 8:16 remaining in the second half, when New Mexico’s forward Jeff McCool hit a three-point shot.

Pacific sent the game into overtime at 69-69 when Christian Gray scored with two seconds left.

Domingo Rosario scored 34 points for Pacific.
