Sexual Preferences

Share

In response to Andy Comiskey’s letter (Calendar Letters, Feb. 7), in which he insists that Cheryl Crane’s sexual preference is a direct result of 2 1/2 years of sexual abuse, the Johnny Stompanato slaying and her mother Lana Turner’s “own sexual brokenness,” it is obvious that Comiskey has not read Crane’s book or he would have discovered that her initial attractions toward females began when she was 6 years old--a full four years before the sexual abuse episodes.

And how would Comiskey explain the sexual preferences of the many thousands of lesbians (and gay men, for that matter) who have never been the victims of sexual abuse or broken marriages?

I don’t believe anyone in the scientific community has yet proved or disproved whether homosexuality is innate or environmental and, frankly, it doesn’t really matter.

What is important is that human beings of all persuasions--sexual and emotional--have the innate right to choose to be who and what they are. And respect the rights of others.
