A bicyclist died early Saturday, about 12 hours after she was struck by a tractor-trailer truck when she cut in front of it on a Chatsworth street, Los Angeles police reported.

Anu Chhokar, 20, of Northridge, was hit by the truck at 4:10 p.m. Friday on De Soto Avenue at Lassen Street, Officer James Kassee said. The truck and the bicyclist were waiting at a red light at Lassen Street when Chhokar rode her bicycle from the curb into the lane in front of the stopped truck, Kassee said.

The light changed and truck driver Scott Barber, 31, of Palmdale apparently did not see Chhokar, Kassee said. Chhokar was pronounced dead at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

Barber was not charged.

As a result of another San Fernando Valley traffic accident, an 85-year-old North Hollywood woman died Friday afternoon, two days after she was struck by a pickup truck as she crossed Vineland Avenue at Hesby Street, officers said.

Maisie Harris was hit by the truck early Wednesday and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where she died, a hospital spokesman said Saturday.

The elderly woman was wearing dark clothing and driver Erik Omonson, 19, of Sylmar, did not see her in time to stop, Kassee added.

Omonson was not charged.
