Local News in Brief : Waste Dumping Case

Share

The owner of a Bellflower roofing company will be sentenced in Superior Court on March 9 on felony charges for illegally transporting and disposing of hazardous wastes at the Puente Hills Landfill.

Kevin John Bush, owner of KJB Roofing Co., pleaded no contest Friday to one count of illegal disposal and one count of illegal transportation of hazardous wastes, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. William Carter.

The charges, filed last October, stem from the dumping of several hundred gallons of highly flammable solvents and paint sludge at the San Gabriel Valley landfill last March 31. Prosecutors said that one of Bush’s employees dumped the wastes at the landfill in an unincorporated area near Whittier.

Bush faces up to 30 days in county jail and a $5,000 fine, plus he must pay an unspecified amount for investigative costs, Carter said. When he returns to court, a third misdemeanor charge filed against him for illegal storage of hazardous waste on March 30 will be dismissed, Carter said.
