Ex-Glendale Officer Sues Over Firing, Alleged Bias
A black Glendale police officer who was fired last May for his involvement in an off-duty fight has filed a $4-million wrongful termination and racial discrimination lawsuit against the city.
The lawsuit, filed Friday on behalf of Siegfried Dale Faucette, alleges wrongful termination, civil rights violations, intentional infliction of emotional distress and defamation, Carl E. Douglas, Faucette’s attorney, said.
Faucette, a seven-year veteran of the Glendale Police Department, was fired for hitting a security guard at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center during a dispute in January, 1986. Faucette was seeking medical care for his infant daughter and parked in a hospital emergency zone designated for ambulances.
Faucette was one of three black officers who testified against the Police Department in a federal discrimination trial that found the department had passed over Latino Officer Ricardo L. Jauregui for promotion to sergeant in favor of less-qualified Anglo officers.
Faucette and the two other officers have each filed separate discrimination claims against Glendale since testifying in the 1986 federal trial.
