Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Slow-Growth Group Files 14,000 Signatures
A group seeking passage of a city traffic initiative--almost identical to a countywide measure that is expected to qualify for the June ballot--has submitted 14,289 signatures to the city clerk.
The initiative petitions will go to the county’s registrar of voters, who will check that those who signed the proposed Citizens’ Sensible Growth and Traffic Control Amendment and Ordinance are registered voters, a process expected to take at least two weeks.
In order to qualify the measure for the Nov. 8 citywide ballot, members of Huntington Beach Tomorrow, the initiative backers, needed to collect signatures from 10% of the city’s voters, or 9,435 names.
Organizers of the countywide traffic initiative drive, from the beginning, planned to qualify a county measure as well as individual measures for each city. Huntington Beach Tomorrow members have worked closely with Orange County Tomorrow, the county initiative campaigners.
