Clay Approved for Harbor Board
The Los Angeles City Council has approved the appointment of Floyd Clay, a labor leader and Wilmington resident, to a seat on the city’s Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Clay, 44, will replace Kenneth Lord, another labor leader, who died Dec. 15. His appointment continues the practice of having a labor representative on the five-member panel, which sets policy for the Port of Los Angeles. The appointment has also received approval from Wilmington residents, who are often at odds with the port and who have asked for someone from their community to serve on the commission.
Clay, business manager of Local 1437 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, will attend his first meeting as a commissioner Wednesday.
