Community College Roundup : Golden West Wins in Baseball

Keith Laszlo went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs to lead Golden West College to an 8-4 victory over Palomar Wednesday in a nonconference baseball game at Palomar.

Leading 1-0, Golden West (4-2) scored five times in the third inning. Craig Paquette drove in two runs in the third with a double.

Ken Hokus pitched seven innings, giving up only one unearned run, for the victory. Hokus (2-0) struck out eight and walked five. Humberto Cruz (1-1) was the losing pitcher for Palomar (2-3)

In the Mt. San Antonio tournament:

Saddleback 10, East Los Angeles 9--Todd Bush of Saddleback, who came in to pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, allowed one run but got the side out for Saddleback (3-2) in the first-round game. The Gauchos play MiraCosta today.

In nonconference softball:

Santa Monica 1, Cypress 0--Ginger Lopez opened the seventh inning with a single and scored one out later on a double by Suzy Bucher for Santa Monica (3-0). Corrine Yamine picked up the victory.

Rancho Santiago 2, Cerritos 0--Tami Rogers’ two-out single in the fifth inning scored Lolly Figueroa and Debbie Kerr for host Rancho Santiago (1-1). Karen Beebe had a no-hitter into the seventh inning before she gave up a single with two outs.

Saddleback 3, Golden West 0--Debbie Hartwig drove in two runs with a first-inning triple and scored on Kim Milewski’s single for host Sddleback (6-1). Patti Taylor (5-1) threw a four-hit shutout, striking out seven.

In nonconference tennis:

Rancho Santiago 6, Cerritos 3--Thien Dao led Rancho Santiago (1-3) at Cerritos. Dao, Rancho Santiago’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Terry Fryer, 6-2, 6-3.
