Local News in Brief : Key Prosecutor Named

Gary A. Feess has been named chief assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles, overseeing a staff of 113 federal prosecutors in the seven-county Central District, it was announced Friday.

Feess, a staff prosecutor in Los Angeles for eight years, is a partner in the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.

A graduate of the University of Ohio, UC Berkeley and the UCLA law school, Feess served as chief of the major-frauds unit of the U.S. attorney’s office, supervising cases involving bank fraud, securities fraud, telemarketing and insurance fraud.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Gary Feess back to this office. He is an exceptional lawyer and one of the finest assistant U.S. attorneys to have ever served in this office,” U.S. Atty. Robert C. Bonner said in a statement announcing the appointment, which becomes effective Monday.
