A memorial service for Gordon Levoy, an attorney who worked in the film industry for many years and who also helped draft the charter for the American Institute of Decorators, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilshire Boulevard Temple.

Levoy, a well-known philanthropist on Los Angeles’ Westside, was 83 when he died Feb. 16.

His daughter, Lola Levoy, said her father helped Herbert J. Yates form Republic Pictures Corp. in 1935 and then in 1949 founded General Television Enterprises, one of the first companies to produce motion pictures for television. She said General Television also pioneered the concept of the TV series and a syndication system for the new medium.

Levoy was a past president of the B’nai B’rith Lodge of Beverly Hills, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, past president of the Friars and Eddie Cantor charitable foundations, and a co-founder of the Beverly Hills Charitable Foundation.
