Local News in Brief : Westminster : Hit-and-Run Driver Sought in Cyclist's Death

A 25-year-old Westminster man died of severe head injuries Monday night after a driver struck his motorcycle and fled, authorities said.

Guy Laverne Purscell died shortly before 11 p.m. at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, according to Westminster Police Lt. Steve Martinez. Purscell had not been wearing a helmet, he said.

Purscell was traveling south on Hoover Street approaching Hazard Avenue at 12:15 p.m. Monday when a northbound white, 1974 Ford Maverick turned left and struck him on the right side, Martinez said.

The car, driven by a male and carrying a female passenger, sped from the scene, Martinez said. Witnesses said the car's license plate number was 1EPS514 and that the vehicle should have slight front-end damage from the collision, Martinez said.
