A San Pedro man, who police say likened himself to a killer in a popular horror film series, was arrested on suspicion of murder and a series of violent robberies committed over a two-month period in San Pedro.

The suspect, Angel Regino, 18, told victims that they would never forget him because he was another “Freddy Krueger,” the murderer in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies, Los Angeles police said.

On Jan. 7, according to investigators, a man carrying a sawed-off shotgun terrorized a two-block area, fatally shooting Johnny Healy, 49, who had been sleeping in his truck, and trying unsuccessfully to shoot a passer-by who attempted to call police.

The gunman, again wearing a distinctive fedora similar to the one worn by the film character, returned to the same neighborhood last week, robbed another man and fired several errant shots, police said. Regino was arrested Monday at a Wilmington drug counseling center.
