Butane Spill Empties 3 Motels

VENTURA, Calif. —
About 150 guests in three motels were evacuated early today when a tanker truck carrying highly flammable butane overturned on the Ventura Freeway, closing all lanes to southbound traffic. None of the fuel leaked onto the freeway, but the guests were evacuated while crews transferred the butane into another tanker, Ventura Officer Bonnie Lucking said. The southbound lanes of the highway were closed near California Street while the transfer was under way.
