Local News in Brief : Freeway Wall Is Requested
Residents of the Del Aire area of Hawthorne on Monday submitted to the City Council a petition with more than 300 signatures asking for a wall to be built to shield the neighborhood from the noise and dirt of construction on the Century Freeway, particularly between 117th Street and El Segundo Boulevard.
City officials said Caltrans plans to build graded dirt walls along parts of the freeway in the Del Aire area. However, residents said more immediate action is necessary. They added that a wall already has been built to shield the Holly Glen area from the construction, which began a year ago. The freeway is expected to be completed by 1993.
The Council said it will investigate options and meet with residents to discuss them.
