Local News in Brief : Fullerton : University to Honor 25 of Its Founders
Cal State Fullerton will dedicate its dominant quadrangle of open space on campus as Founders Quad at 11 a.m. Wednesday in ceremonies presided over by the university’s president, Jewel Plummer Cobb.
The event will honor the 25 full-time faculty and staff members who launched the new “Orange County State College” in 1959 with 452 students. Today, enrollment is about 24,500.
During the ceremonies, a sundial bordered by a new outdoor, semicircular seating area will be unveiled. A plaque on the sundial identifies the college “pioneers” of 1959.
The founders being honored include William B. Langsdorf, the first president; Stuart F. McComb, executive dean; Gerhard E. Ehmann, dean of instruction; Ernest A. Becker, dean of students; Miles D. McCarthy, division of science chairman, and Ernest W. Toy Jr., college librarian.
Among the 25 college founders being honored are six secretaries and four plant-operation workers.
