Two Skiers Rescued in Storm Will Face Trial
Two skiers who were rescued during a winter storm will stand trial May 11 on the misdemeanor charge of skiing out of bounds from the Sugarbowl Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe.
Jeffrey Cawdrey, of San Diego, and his brother, Marcus, of Tiburon, pleaded not guilty. They will represent themselves at the jury trial, a Tahoe Justice Court clerk said Tuesday.
Authorities cited the two for intentionally skiing outside marked boundaries Dec. 29 as they attempted to reach a holiday cabin on Donner Lake. Snow was falling at the rate of more than 2 inches an hour, and the skiers had never been on the route before, officers said.
A nine-member search party found the men after their family contacted sheriff’s deputies.
