Garden State Park officials suspended jockey Armando Marquez for six months for grabbing the reins of jockey Julie Krone’s horse near the finish line during Monday night’s eighth race.
The penalty is believed to be the most severe ever imposed in New Jersey for that kind of violation. Marquez, a Panamanian who lives in Philadelphia, was upset by the decision, claiming that his hands accidentally got tangled in Krone’s reins as he was trying to win.
