Return of Missionaries to Lebanon Urged

The Southern Baptist Foreign Missions Board has urged the State Department to allow American missionaries to return to Lebanon. The department ordered them out a year ago because of strife there.

“What we’re appealing for is the same opportunity that we’ve exercised in other trouble spots through the years,” said board president R. Keith Parks in a letter to Secretary of State George P. Schultz.

Southern Baptists pulled out 24 missionaries at the time the department ordered the exodus of U.S. citizens. Parks said missionaries, who feel called by God to certain areas, should be allowed to take risks for their faith.
