Local News in Brief : 2 Homeless Shelters Get $73,000 in Grants
Two San Fernando Valley shelters for the homeless have been awarded grants from a Los Angeles agency dedicated to assisting the homeless in securing jobs and housing.
The Greater Los Angeles Partnership, composed of several businesses, gave the grants to the Van Nuys-based Avila Center and the North Hollywood-based Valley Shelter. The Avila Center was awarded $33,000 and the Valley shelter $40,000.
Suzanne Campi, director of the partnership, said the grants would help support the operation and services of the shelters.
The Avila and Valley shelters will use the grants for transitional living programs to assist homeless people with job counseling and housing advice.
