Spanos Should Cut Payroll Instead of Raising Prices

Share

I was shocked to see the Chargers increase ticket prices by $3 per ticket coming off of last season’s end-of-the-year collapse. Mr. Spanos points out that the team lost close to $2 million. I feel that if the Chargers released Fouts, Herrmann, Redden, Brock and Lowe, they would save $1,832,000 per season without affecting the competitiveness of the team. They could then trade one of their four tight ends for a quarterback, thereby improving the team, reducing the payroll and avoiding such a hefty ticket increase. Mr. Spanos, Dan Fouts was a great quarterback, but it’s time to close this chapter in Charger history and start building for the ‘90s.
