Steelers Raise ’88 Ticket Prices
The Pittsburgh Steelers will raise the cost of most of their tickets by $3 apiece in 1988.
Season ticket-holders were told in letters last week about the increase, the Steelers’ first in two years.
“This is normal,” said Steeler spokesman Dan Edwards. “If you look back, about every two years we’ve raised prices. This is really a move to stay competitive.”
The Steelers raised the cost of a seat from $17 to $20 in the field boxes, loge boxes and terrace boxes, all but a small portion of the 59,000 seats in Three Rivers Stadium. Season tickets for the nine home games--eight regular season and one exhibition--now cost $180, up from $153. That represents a 17.6% increase.
The Steelers also asked fans for their thoughts on the team’s considering banning use of umbrellas.
