A Sun Valley man died Sunday after he was stabbed in the chest in the driveway of his home, Los Angeles police said.

Pastor Velasquez, a 25-year-old welder, was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills about 3:30 a.m. and died an hour later, authorities said.

Maximo Ayala Valencia, 37, of North Hollywood was arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held in the North Hollywood Jail.

Police said the stabbing occurred after a dispute between the two men in front of Velasquez’s house in the 8200 block of Fair Avenue. Valencia was arguing with a woman who rents part of the Fair Avenue house when Velasquez interceded and told Valencia to go home, Detective Mike Coffey said.

Police said Valencia left, then returned with a knife about 30 minutes later. Velasquez was stabbed once in the chest, authorities said.

Valencia was arrested half a block from Velasquez’s house.
