The World : Czech Catholics Protest

Thousands of Roman Catholics packed a cathedral in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and hundreds shouted “We want religious freedom!” later in a demonstration outside the residence of Cardinal Frantisek Tomasek in a sign of growing religious resistance to the Communist government. The Mass at St. Vitus Cathedral, across the street from the home of President Gustav Husak, drew an estimated 8,000 people in one of the biggest religious services in the capital since the Communist takeover in 1948. Several dozen plainclothes security officers were posted inside and outside the cathedral.
