Anaheim Extends Its Moratorium on New Billboards
The Anaheim City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to extend for one year a moratorium on new billboards in the city.
The council had adopted the temporary moratorium on billboard construction in January while it considered a new billboard ordinance. The new law would have placed tighter controls over the numbers and locations of future billboards, but it also would have lifted the city’s current ban on new freeway billboards.
After failing to agree on provisions of the new ordinance, council members voted instead to create a task force to study billboard regulations.
The moratorium, as approved Tuesday, would expire Jan. 25, 1989, unless extended or could be terminated upon the adoption of a new billboard ordinance.
