Local News in Brief : Noise Foes Can Testify

Share

An anti-noise residents’ group will be allowed to testify at a trial over limits on airline flights at Long Beach Municipal Airport, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Laughlin Waters ruled against a motion to bar members of Long Beach Houses Under Stress and Hazard (HUSH) from testifying at the trial of a lawsuit brought by airlines seeking to force the city to allow more flights.

The motion to bar HUSH was made by one of the attorneys for nine commercial and four commuter airlines who allege that city limits on flights unreasonably interfere with interstate commerce and hamper the traveling public.

HUSH members said they will pack the courtroom with supporters when members testify about noise and health problems associated with living underneath a flight path.

Waters has issued temporary orders allowing 26 commercial and 25 commuter flights a day at the airport.
