Share

The Monrovia Public Library has received an award from the California Parks and Recreation Society for a summer program that combined reading and recreational activities for children and their families.

The award was one of 11 the state organization presented at a banquet last Sunday in Long Beach, according to Patty Robinson, the children’s librarian in Monrovia. She accepted the award honoring the library’s eight-week “Wild About Reading” program last summer.

The city Parks and Recreation Department was involved in a number of activities to encourage children to read, she said. The library sponsored three family picnics, which included singing, dancing and storytelling, at Library Park. During the summer, 750 children participated in the reading program and 500 children and their families attended an awards picnic in Library Park.
