An arson fire gutted the gymnasium at Will Rogers Memorial Park in Watts early Wednesday, causing an estimated $250,000 damage, authorities said.

A flammable liquid was used to set fire to the building at 1335 E. 103rd St. at 2:15 a.m., Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Gayhart said.

Eight units from the city and county fire departments controlled the blaze in about 15 minutes, but not before it had gutted the popular gymnasium, Los Angeles County firefighter Clarence Gardner said.

“The damage is such that it’s not going to be in use for some time,” Gayhart said.

No injuries were reported and no arrests had been made. The gym had a pool and was a favorite gathering spot for Watts teens, authorities said.

Sheriff’s arson detectives were investigating the fire.
