Bush Would Have Ethics Panel

Vice President George Bush said today he is “tired of being embarrassed” by scandals surrounding public officials and unethical behavior by high government officials. He pledged he would create a special White House ethics panel if elected President.

Bush, arriving in Illinois on the heels of his stunning Super Tuesday victory, did not single out anyone, but his call for an ethics panel “right there in the White House” seemed a veiled criticism of the way ethics have been handled during the Reagan years. Former White House aides Michael K. Deaver and Lyn Nofziger have been convicted recently in court cases involving their lobbying activities and Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III is under investigation by several grand juries.
