Local News in Brief : Fullerton : Pickup Busts Through Window in Store Theft

Share

Two 15-year-old Santa Ana boys were arrested early Friday after they allegedly drove a stolen pickup through the window of a sports store in Fullerton and took a large quantity of clothing and shoes, police said.

Police were seeking a third youth, also believed to be 15. The boys’ names were not released because of their age.

Police Sgt. Jeff Roop said the three stole two pickups from Hansel Oldsmobile-GMC in Fullerton on Thursday evening and then used one of the trucks to get into the Athletic Shoe Factory at 2949 N. Brea Blvd.

A clerk from a nearby business called police after seeing three youths drive a truck through a large window about 11:45 p.m. and start to remove merchandise from the store. When police arrived, the youths drove away in the two trucks and led authorities on a chase, Roop said.

One teen-ager was arrested a short distance away, officials said. The other two got away in the second truck, which was spotted later near Pearson Park in Anaheim, authorities said.

Police used dogs to track down a second suspect, who was hiding in bushes. One dog bit the boy’s leg, Roop said, and the boy was treated for a minor puncture wound. The third teen-ager was never found.

Police said sweat suits, 12 T-shirts, 10 boxes of tennis shoes and several boxes of tube socks were found in the truck.

The youths were being held Friday at Juvenile Hall pending charges, police said.
