Two people were killed and five were injured in a head-on collision Saturday on California 94 near Dulzura, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Joe and Mamie Ruczak of Chula Vista, both 76, died in the accident, which occurred five miles east of Otay Lakes Road at 2:10 p.m. They were westbound on 94 when an eastbound car carrying a 39-year-old woman and four children crossed over the center line and struck them, according to CHP spokesman Jim Logan.

Joe Ruczak was dead at the scene, Logan said. His wife was taken by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other car, Shelly Myers of Spring Valley, was taken to Grossmont Hospital with minor injuries, according to Logan.

One of Myers’ sons, Gordan, 7, was taken to the Children’s Hospital, where he was in fair condition with head and possible pelvic injuries, hospital spokeswoman Terry Merryman said. Another son, Aaron, 12, was also taken to Children’s Hospital with mouth and possible pelvic injuries and was in fair condition Saturday night, Merryman said. Joey Nunez, 10, also was taken to Children’s Hospital with major injuries, but no further details were available on his condition.

Another Myers son, Kalin, 7, was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with injuries described by officials as moderate.
