Italians OK Contract for Airport Workers
Italian trade unions and employers agreed Sunday on a government-mediated contract for 28,000 airport workers after months of disruption from strikes and marathon talks on pay and conditions.
The contract, which runs until the end of 1990, must now be put for approval to the workers, who rejected a previous deal worked out last December.
The latest package was agreed by Italy’s main confederated unions, the state airline Alitalia and airport operators. It offers annual pay rises of $2,900 and a cut in hours for shift workers to 37.5 a week from 40.5.
