Blood Clot Found in Biden’s Lung
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s doctors discovered a blood clot in one of his lungs, but a spokesman at Walter Reed Army Medical Center said Monday that the Delaware Democrat is in no danger.
Peter Esker said the clot is dissolving but doctors will use anti-coagulant drugs or a surgical procedure in an attempt to prevent future clots. If surgery is done, a venous filter, a form of catheter, would be inserted in a vein.
Biden is expected to be hospitalized for a week. He then will return to his Wilmington, Del., home to continue recuperating from surgery Feb. 12 to repair an aneurysm in an artery supplying blood to the brain. Biden, 45, is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
