Glendale Gets Funds to Study Light-Rail System

Share

The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission last week agreed to allocate $100,000 to match Glendale’s contribution for a study of possible routes for a light-rail transit system linking Glendale with downtown Los Angeles.

Glendale officials said the $200,000 study will explore potential routes along freeway medians and existing railroad rights of way. A report is expected to be completed within a year.

Despite the study, Transportation Commission officials said no funds are expected to be available to build a light-rail transit system in Glendale for at least 15 years.

Kerry Morford, executive assistant to the Glendale director of public works, said the study will help officials plan for transit needs and speed construction when funds become available.
