Long Beach : Ship Dress Code Undecided

Share

Beards and mustaches are being banished among the 1,600 employees of the Disneyland Hotel, but the new dress code has not yet been extended to workers at the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose complex in Long Beach.

Walt Disney Co. and Industrial Equity (Pacific) Ltd. of Hong Kong, which bought both the hotel and Queen Mary from Wrather Corp. last January, is still deciding issues over management of the historic ship and plane.

If Disney decides to take the leading role in the management of the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose, the dress policy may be imposed, said Wrather Port Properties Chairman Joseph Prevratil. But until then, the controversial dress code will not be imposed.

The new owners of the Disneyland Hotel have ordered employees to follow the same 1957 dress code that was adopted for Disneyland’s 26,000 workers. The policy forbids employees with beards or mustaches, gold chains or earrings. Women cannot wear eye shadow, long fingernails and generally cannot wear pants.
