A faulty valve dumped about 700 gallons of radioactive water onto the floor of the reactor building at the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant. There were no reports of injuries or radiation leakage. The water was “slightly radioactive” and spilled during a test of a backup valve system when a change in pressure forced a valve to open for seven minutes, said Brad Thomas, spokesman for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, which owns the plant. Rancho Seco is scheduled to be re-started March 20.
