A Huntington Beach couple and their grown daughter were discovered shot to death Thursday in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Lloyd Edwards said the victims were John Dellea, 55, his wife, Beverly, 53, and daughter, Kimberly Dellea, 30.

They were found in separate rooms in the family home in the 20000 block of Harbor Isle Lane.

Deaths Late Wednesday

Edwards said evidence at the scene indicated that the slayings, which apparently took place late Wednesday, were a murder-suicide.

Further information about the victims or a possible motive was unavailable Thursday night.

“The way that it was discovered was that a personal friend of the family came to the residence,” Edwards said.

“She tried the door and nobody answered. She was concerned about their safety and called police. She had just talked to them yesterday (Wednesday).”

Edwards said when officers arrived at the upper-middle-class residence at 3 p.m., they found the victims dead of wounds from a .30-caliber rifle.

No Forced Entry

He said there were no signs of forced entry or robbery.

“There is nothing to conflict with a murder-suicide,” Edwards said. “We think one of them did it.”

However, Edwards declined to say which family member police suspect may have done the shooting.

Edwards said a son and another daughter, whose names were not immediately available, were not home at the time of the slayings.
