Yorba Linda : Baby Nearly Drowns; Mother Is Arrested
A 9-month-old Yorba Linda baby remained in critical condition at Childrens Hospital of Orange County on Thursday after a near-drowning in a bathtub.
The boy’s mother, Cecelia Cardenas, 22, was arrested on charges of felony child endangerment shortly after the incident, which occurred about 1 p.m. Wednesday in her Plumosa Drive apartment. The father was at work at the time.
Cardenas had left the boy and his nearly 2-year-old brother in the bathtub to run an errand, according to Detective Robert Harper. She returned to find the younger boy not breathing and took both children to the home of a neighbor, who called police. The Cardenases do not have a telephone in their apartment.
The older brother is in protective custody at the Orangewood Children’s Home in Orange pending a Juvenile Court hearing, Harper said.
