The man accused of being the so-called “Bolder Than Most” rapist pleaded innocent Thursday to 30 additional charges involving eight other incidents.

Alvin Ray Quarles, 26, of San Diego, is now charged with 58 counts of rape, forcible oral copulation, burglary, robbery, and receiving stolen property in a total of 14 alleged sexual assaults.

San Diego Municipal Judge Linda Quinn set bail at $500,000 on the new charges. Quarles is also being held on $500,000 bail on the other 28 charges filed last month.

Police dubbed the series of sexual attacks “bolder than most” because the man entered women’s apartments or motel rooms even if they had a husband or boyfriend with them. Victims were ordered to perform sex acts with their companions while he watched or engaged in sex with them together.

The attacks occurred in Mission Valley, East San Diego, Clairemont, and National City--where Quarles was arrested Feb. 22 at a motel. The series of incidents began last September.

“It’s too early to say what the defense is going to be,” said his attorney, Charles Adair. “In this case, Mr. Quarles is saying he’s falsely accused.”

A preliminary hearing is set for April 4.
