Local News in Brief : Recorder Expands Hours
The public now has three more hours each day to file for birth, death and marriage records at the downtown Hall of Records.
Los Angeles County officials announced that, as part of a plan to ease traffic congestion and improve public service, the county recorder’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
By extending the closing time, Supervisor Mike Antonovich said, county officials can “reduce gridlock and increase service to the public without any additional cost to taxpayers.”
He called the plan part of a “common-sense” approach toward easing traffic congestion.
The recorder’s office serves about 1,000 people a day and provides about 600,000 copies of birth, marriage and death certificates annually, according to Registrar-Recorder Charles Weissburd.
Weissburd said that employees have volunteered for double shifts or staggered schedules to extend the office hours.
