GOP Opposes Use of State Funds to Counsel Gay Students

I graduated from Fairfax High School 26 years ago. Most of the names and faces of my teachers have long since faded away. During those years from 1959 to 1962 the major activity in many classes was boredom. At a time when Fairfax was the top-rated school in the city, staying awake in class could be a major accomplishment.

One of the names that has stuck with me all these years is Virginia Uribe. She was one of the very best teachers. Her classes were exciting and challenging. You could tell she cared about her students. Everyone wanted her class. I remember very well her enthusiasm and encouragement.

I have two young children currently attending school. My wife and I are very concerned about the quality of education our children are receiving. If only more teachers had the energy, spirit and passion of Uribe, we would be better off.
