GOP Opposes Use of State Funds to Counsel Gay Students
It absolutely infuriates me how narrow-minded the Assembly Republicans are to vote unanimously to oppose a counselor for gay students. You simply cannot change your feelings about sexual attractions! Yes, you can torture someone by making them feel terrible about themselves, you can drive them to alcoholism and suicide, and you can force them to pretend they are heterosexuals and thus push them into unfulfilled marriages that almost certainly end in divorce! But you can never change their feelings--their emotional and sexual needs.
Why won’t these Republicans listen to the psychiatric professional community? I am absolutely appalled that some people still think gays choose to be members of the most oppressed minority in this country. How can we possible help these students if they have no one to talk to? It is long overdue that the secondary schools try to help gay students.
